AMH Test (Anti-Müllerian Hormone)

Anti-Müllerian Hormone testing (AMH testing) offers valuable insight into your ovarian reserve, giving you a clearer picture of how many eggs you may have left. AMH levels naturally decline with age, so understanding yours can be helpful, especially if you're thinking about options like egg freezing or IVF. While AMH testing doesn’t predict exactly how many viable eggs you have or your chances of conceiving, it provides essential information that could guide your family planning journey.

According to the world health organisation (WHO) infertility affects 1 in 6 people globally, with 17.5% of adults struggling to conceive. Both high and low AMH levels can influence fertility, with higher levels sometimes associated with conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Typically, AMH levels peak in your mid-twenties and gradually decline, becoming undetectable after menopause.

Keep in mind that certain birth control pills can affect your AMH levels, so if you've recently stopped taking the pill, wait until your menstrual cycle has returned to normal before taking the AMH test. And if you're not ready for pregnancy just yet, be sure to use alternative contraception while you explore your fertility options.
