Why should you test

Many men choose to monitor their PSA levels as they get older, if they have a family history of prostate cancer, or simply as part of a proactive approach to managing their health. Knowing your PSA level can help you better understand your prostate health, establish a baseline for future comparison and monitor changes over time. PSA levels can change over time and may be influenced by age, family history and a range of prostate-related conditions. Levels may also be affected by factors such as an enlarged prostate, prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate), urinary tract infections, recent vigorous exercise, sexual activity and certain medications. If you are experiencing symptoms such as needing to urinate more frequently, difficulty starting or stopping urination, a weak urine flow, or needing to get up frequently during the night to urinate, you should speak to a healthcare professional for advice.
